The Peoples Democratic Party and civil
rights groups on Saturday advised the All Progressives Congress’
government of President Muhammadu Buhari on how to move the nation
forward.
The opposition party and the groups
spoke on the nation’s 56th Independence Day anniversary and various
challenges facing the country.
The National Publicity Secretary of the
pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, said
Nigeria had entered a terminal crisis.
He stated, “The first and clear agenda
is nationhood which his (Buhari) anniversary broadcast was silent on.
Nigeria has entered a terminal crisis and the only way to avoid a
looming implosion is to set the country on a new path via restructuring.
“The regime is concentrating on software at the moment but without hardware, the software is useless.”
The PDP, in a statement by its
spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye, said the APC government should close ranks
with major stakeholders in the country in order to realise the vision of
the country’s founding fathers.
Adeyeye stated, “We wish to once again
urge the All Progressives Congress’ administration to close ranks with
all major stakeholders in the country with a view to bring to bear the
vision of those who fought for the independence of our great nation,
Nigeria.”
On his part, the Executive Secretary of
the Africa Network for Environmental and Economic Justice, Rev. David
Ugolor, in an interview , said Buhari should provide an institutional roadmap to tackle corruption in Nigeria.
