Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Saturday expressed confidence
that Nigeria will soon emerge from its current challenges to become a
better nation.
They spoke in separate interviews with
State House correspondents at the end of the Presidential Change of
Guards Parade organised to mark Nigeria’s 56th Independence Day
anniversary inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Osinbajo said he was convinced that Nigeria would soon begin to witness growth in all facets of life.
“I think it is a time for a lot of hope.
I think that in the next few years, we will demonstrate the real
capacity of our country in every facet of our life. We will prevail,” he
said.
Saraki urged Nigerians to cooperate with their leaders with a view to moving the country forward.
He said although things are tough, the nation had the wherewithal to weather the storm.
According to him, the National Assembly
has already come up with a 20-point resolution for the executive that
will assist the country to come out of recession.
Saraki said, “Things are tough. I have
said it many times that we must face reality. I don’t think it is
insurmountable. I believe that we can do it.”
A former Chief of General Staff, Ebitu
Ukiwe, advised Nigerians to follow the path of righteousness for the
nation’s future to be rosy.
ANAMBRA
A former Governor of Anambra State, Mr.
Peter Obi, called on Nigerians, especially leaders, to always reflect on
the nation’s founding fathers’ ideals before decision-making.
Obi who stated this in his Independence
Day anniversary message made available to our correspondent in Awka,
said if Nigerians did not change their ways, “our children will not
forgive us.”
Obi supported the call for restructuring
of the country according to the dictates of justice and equity, adding
that as long as some sections of the country were being marginalised,
Nigeria would not progress as expected.
NIGER
The Peoples Democratic Party in Niger
State on Saturday said the ruling All Progressives Congress was
responsible for the woes of the ordinary Nigerian.
The party’s chairman in the state, Mr.
Tanko Beji, made the observation in a statement released to journalists
to mark Nigeria’s 56th independence anniversary.
He alleged that Niger State was not being well administered by the APC government led by Governor Abubakar Bello.
He said, “It is sad that social
amenities like water, roads and health facilities inherited from the PDP
government had been allowed to rot away.”
