Ekiti anniversary: Fayose commends Abacha, Fayemi, others

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has commended the late military dictator, Gen Sanni Abacha, for his vision leading to the creation of the state, exactly 20 years ago.
He also commended past military and civilian administrations for their contribution to building the state to “enviable height”.
Fayose spoke while addressing stakeholders at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium, Ado Ekiti, after the independence walk, which kicked off from Mathew Street in Ado Ekiti.
Ekiti State was created on October 1, 1996 alongside Bayelsa, Gombe, Nasarawa, Ebonyi and Zamfara States.
The governor commended Abacha and Ekiti founding fathers for actualising the dream for the state’s creation.
He said, “Let me commend Gen. Abacha  for creating the state and I also thank our founding fathers for their vision. Though, I didn’t participate in the struggle, but I am a beneficiary and many children and governors yet unborn will also benefit .
“Politics aside, let me commend all the military and duly elected governors of the past for their contributions, because they have contributed their own quota within the available resources to lay a foundation, for without foundation there could be nothing to build upon.
“Ekiti has scored many firsts within the two years I came on board. Ekiti recorded in transparency in budget provision. It came first in 2016 NECO and these came at the most auspicious time when Ekiti is 20. Our desire now is to buckle up and work harder for more service delivery for the good of you and I.”
The governor decried the economic recession in the country, saying it “is not pleasurable, it is not interesting at all. It is a sad news to hear that a dollar is now being exchanged for N500.”
Also in a statewide broadcast message on the independence, Fayose, who promised that all projects started by his administration will be completed, called on all people of goodwill to have a stake in the development of the state.
“I run an open government and will be happy to have all stakeholders to be part of the Ekiti Project to build a formidable structure for sustainable development in the overall interest of our state.
“May I assure you all that this government will continue to do everything legitimate to sustain the existing peace in the state.
“I appeal to all residents to ensure peaceful co-existence for the good of all of us and all criminal minded individuals will be kept away from the state as the government would mobilize all resources at its disposal to ward off all acts of criminality in order to sustain the peace, law and order that we currently enjoy.”
